Kecak Dance (Monkey Dance)

Kecak dance or dance monkeys became very popular show with tourists in Bali. It was choreographed for tourists and not be put to the Balinese kecak dance for its own purposes, unlike other dances.

However, it still has its roots in traditional Balinese dance and music. Gamelan is not present here, but to replace the choir chanted more than 50 people who sat in concentric circles around the big oil lamps chanting "cak, cak, cak". (pronounced "Chuck"). Chanting while not repeating monotonous. Rather, it is very structured, and the following ideas from contemporary music with Balinese interesting options in the box and rhythm.

The first thing you'll notice that there is no musical accompaniment. Gamelan is not there. The rhythm is provided by chanting "monkey" choir. Polyrhythmic sound of chanting the name provides, "KE-CHAK."

Taken from Ramayana, it tells the story of Rama, who with the help of monkey army, trying to save his wife from the evil hands of King Rawana.
